The fundamental processes of MI are not linear but each are essential in the success of practicing MI. Engaging naturally comes first because you need to have good engagement prior to having a conversation about change. This is the foundation of MI.
This highly interactive session will focus on tools and techniques for creating engagement with people in a Health Center setting. The goal is to establish a productive working relationship through careful listening to understand and accurately reflect the person’s experience and perspective while affirming strengths and supporting autonomy.
Objectives:
- Identify at least 2 tools used to create engagement with individuals
- Use MI tools to support engagement in the MI process
