Staff Accountant

Optimus Health Care is a Federally Qualified Health Care Center with sites in Bridgeport, Stamford, and Stratford, CT. We are the largest provider or primary health care services in Fairfield County, proudly serving all patients regardless of their income, race, or insurance status. We are presently recruiting for a Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of monthly financial analysis reports, developing and maintaining department budgets and generating cost reports in collaboration with the Grants Manager. The Staff Accountant will also collect pertinent information for third party audits, oversee financial reporting and will be the first point of contact for accounting issues in addition to managing the grant reporting process.

 

About This Position:

Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
Maintains and balances an automated consolidation system by inputting data; scheduling required jobs; verifying data.
Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information.
Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; regularly maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts
Perform monthly bank settlements
Provide detailed analyses and explanations of all transactions
Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements.
Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
Provides accounting support for mergers and acquisitions by reviewing financial information; converting data to general ledger system; obtaining supplementary information for preparing financial statements.
Support accounts payable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoice creation and entry.
Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.

Requirements:

Four years accounting experience including the areas of general accounting, fixed assets, financial reporting, and grant reporting.
Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills. 2. Strong Reporting Skills, Deadline-Oriented 3. Good Time Management skills and attention to Detail, 4. Thorough understanding of all accounting functional areas. 5. Strong Math skills 6. Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing programs.
Professional positive attitude, vision, understanding of customer service principals, trustworthiness, and excellent interpersonal skills to successfully accomplish tasks necessary to meet high standards of ethical and social responsibility required by this position.
