Pediatrician
Summary:
The pediatrician is part of the team concept in Norwalk Community Health Center’s health delivery system. He/She will engage in direct patient care activities as the principal component of his/her overall professional responsibility within the pediatrics department. He/She will provide quality, comprehensive patient-centered pediatric care services in accordance with the health centers overall policies and procedures. The physician provides direction to nurses, medical assistants, and the staff members as it relates to the provision of services.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the practice of medicine and the provision of medical care to all pediatric health center patients; including patient assessment, diagnosis, preventative services, and ongoing medical care for acute and chronic medical conditions.
2. Responsible for prescribing and/or administration of treatments, therapies, medications, vaccinations, and other specialized medical care to treat and/or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
3. Orders, performs, and interprets tests and analyzes records, reports, and other data to appropriately diagnose and treat patient medical conditions.
4. Coordinates with other health center staff, including nurses, medical assistants, pharmacy, phlebotomy, social workers, and other allied health professionals to provided quality patient-centered medical care.
5. Effectively utilizes an electronic health record to accurately collect, record, and maintain all patient health information.
6. Maintains collaborative partnerships with medical specialists and other practitioners when patients require referral for specialty care.
7. Participates in quality care initiatives and practice improvement projects at the direction of the department team leader and/or CMO.
8. Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of all clinical documentation and professional records to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements.
9. Maintains appropriate productivity standards as established by the center.
10. Participates in after-hours coverage on a rotation basis with other providers as established by the center.
11. Attends and participates in various health center meetings and other clinical functions as required by the center.

Position Requirements:
- Demonstrated expertise in relevant medical practices, protocol, trends and best practices in clinical areas assigned.
- Experience/Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and standards associated with the delivery of care in a community health center environment.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully.
- Proficiency in knowledge of office management, use of computer, software packages, and office machines.
- Fluency of English language, bilingual Spanish and/or Creole preferred.
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of medicine
Certifications/license/registration:
- Valid Connecticut state medical license required.
- BLS certified by AHA or Red Cross
- Valid DEA license, current controlled substances registration certificate, and ability to prescribe medication required
Experience:
- Previous work in a community health center or ambulatory primary care environment
- Current participation in managed care provider networks
- Demonstrated success with clear thinking and ability to reorganize as needed.
- Demonstrated success in working independently, prioritization and problem solving.
- Demonstrated success in organization abilities.
- Demonstrated success in customer service/patient services or working with the general public, preferably in a medical care facility.
- Demonstrated success in managing difficult patient situations.
- Significant knowledge of medical practices and procedures in a primary care environment.
Physical demands/Environment
Working Conditions
Occasional lifting of 40 – 50 lbs. and pushing of 5-20 lbs. ; sitting, standing and walking approximately 80% of the time , a medium to high level of manual dexterity required; bending and reaching approximately 20% of the time; normal accessibility and mobility throughout the region required; normal overtime/extended work hours.
