Fair Haven Community Health Care has a growing school-based health program that includes medical, behavioral health, and dental services at schools in multiple school districts. The Director of School-Based Health-Center Operations is the operational lead of these school-based programs, overseeing enrollment, patient access, patient flow, community partnerships, and other operational elements that ensure access to high-quality school-based care.
Duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations, the Director of School-Based Health-Center Operations:
- Supervises all SBHC office managers (OMs) and conducts regular meetings with this group.
- Acts as an administrative and operational resource to all SBHC personnel.
- Ensures that scheduling of school-based services across the three service lines (behavioral, dental, and medical) is optimized to achieve operational excellence.
- Actively supports all SBHC personnel by visiting each site routinely and conducts administrative audits of school-based registration and billing processes.
- Acts as liaison to the New Haven Public School, East Haven Public School, and Branford Public School systems.
- Conducts outreach to students, families, school staff and broader community regarding services provided and student health needs.
- Ensures the maintenance of a safe and functional clinic environment, including facilities, equipment, and information technology.
- Ensures that necessary certifications and licensure are obtained/maintained (e.g., DPH, TJC, NCQA).
- Conducts local advocacy with local legislators, school board officials, school district personnel, and other individuals/groups.
- Prepares reports required by funders in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Develop and monitors program budget and adheres to program budget.
- Seeks to maximize third party revenues through appropriate provider scheduling and other methods.
- Participates in relevant meetings, trainings, and collaborative activities.
- Prepare regular status updates on active grants as part of board dockets/materials. Contribute to creation of and updates to grant content for annual report and website.
- Provides support to other programs and initiatives at FHCHC as assigned
- Master’s degree in public health, nursing, social work, health care administration, or other related healthcare field (a bachelor’s degree and equivalent experience may be substituted).
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a health related setting, and three (3) years functioning in a supervisory capacity.
- Experience in program management, preferably in a school based program.
- Experience with medical or behavioral health billing.
- Experience monitoring grants and preparing budgets.
- Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and writing skills.
- Demonstrated competency in the development, implementation, and evaluation of health related programs.
- Dexterity with Microsoft Office, database management, and electronic health records.
- Local travel is an essential requirement of this position.
- Ability to communicate effectively, and relate congenially to youth, families, school staff, clinic staff and community members.
- Commitment to the principles of child and adolescent health, child development, and youth development.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and background working with marginalized or under-served communities.
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
