SUMMARY
Provide comprehensive and appropriate dental care and treatment to patients. Provide supervision to Dental Assistant(s) and Dental Hygienist(s), support staff, and interns / volunteers.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Directly affect improvements in patient well-being through accurate and timely diagnosis and delivery of high quality dental treatment.
- Ensure the delivery of competent, accurate, dental care and treatment to all patients as assigned.
- Provide leadership and direction to other dental clinic staff.
- Affect overall positive clinic results.
- Meet or exceed all measurable standards of care, including overall clinical, quality, and productivity goals (2,700 visits per 1 FTE)
- Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and appropriate confidentiality with patient charting and related recordkeeping and administrative functions as assigned.
- Operational Excellence
- Ensure the delivery of all dental treatment and care is consistent with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards, including clinic policies and quality initiatives.
- Understand and ensure all practices and procedures related to the delivery of dental services are consistent with contracted protocols and procedures.
- Relationship Management
- Develop and ensure favorable relationships with all patients and their families. Ensure all patient services are delivered in a caring and professional manner.
- Develop and ensure favorable relationships with vendors, contractors and payer sources.
- Develop and ensure ongoing, positive relationships and collaboration with other dentists and dental staff members. Ensure the success of each clinic operation through collaborative support and working relationships with all clinic operations staff.
- Professionalism & Stewardship
- Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner at all times.
- Uphold and ensure compliance and attention to all corporate policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, restorative, periodontal, fixed prosthetics, removable prosthetics, endodontics, pediatric, and oral surgery procedures.
- Initiate and interpret x-ray and lab studies.
- Administer and prescribe anesthetics and medications.
- Refer patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as appropriate.
- Supervise Dental Assistant, Dental Hygienist, interns/externs, residents, students.
- Conduct follow-up patient care.
- Provide dental and oral health education to patients and families.
- Assist in reviewing clinic productivity, scheduling procedures, and establishing guidelines for care and treatment.
- Teach and train patients and staff on illness prevention.
- Actively participate in community dental programs.
- Assist with in-service and ongoing training of clinic staff.
- Build relationships and foster a high level of customer service.
- Manage difficult clients and patients, demonstrating interpersonal savvy and influence skills.
- Exercise professional judgment in the performance of services provided consistent with the organization’s policies and the standards of the dental profession.
- Demonstrate high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements.
- Perform assigned dental tasks using high level of skills and ability.
- Utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval with proficiency.
- Utilize and monitor effectiveness and efficiency of all equipment and supplies used in the delivery of services.
- Communicate frequently with others in verbal and written communication format.
- Implement and evaluate operational and administrative processes. Attends organizational meetings to represent the Dental Dept. (PI, QA, Infection Control, etc.).
- Assist and lead StayWell emergency codes for sudden adverse developments.
- Must follow OSHA standards and universal precautions at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· Doctor of Dental Science from an accredited educational institution |
· Unrestricted licensure including Connecticut DPH, Connecticut CSR, and Federal DEA to practice dentistry |
· Active participating with Connecticut Medicaid and other required carriers |
· StayWell Health Center will check the motor vehicle records annually for all current employees and all job applicants with driving responsibilities or those who use rental cars for business travel purposes. |
· Unrestricted, valid Connecticut driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and current motor vehicle insurance according to legal specifications required |
· In lieu of Connecticut driver’s license, reliable transportation required including the capability to travel between sites and/or attend offsite training, as necessary |
· Basic Annual Safety Training |
- Employee is required to be free and clear of signs and symptoms or evidence of communicable diseases that could be expected to be transmitted during the course of normal scheduled work activity at medical, dental, and behavioral health center
- Receipt of completed Employee Health Certification required biannually including specific immunizations and appropriate frequency as determined by Regulatory Agencies confirming employee has been found to be in adequate mental and physical health and capable of performing the position title
- Due to the nature of this position, a minimum of four full weeks’ notice (not including any holiday or approved paid time off) is required to have been considered to have resigned in good standing, generally eligible for rehire, and to receive payment of accrued, unused vacation benefits up to the employee’s annual accrual amount at termination
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrable expertise in relevant dental practices, protocol, trends and best practices in clinical areas assigned.
- Demonstrable knowledge and success in effecting overall clinical operations.
- Experience / knowledge of FQHC accreditation process and requirements, as well as all federal, state and local regulations and standards associated with the delivery of care in a community health center environment.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully
- Proficiency in knowledge of office management, use of computer, software packages, and office machines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Requires medium to high manual dexterity and fine motor coordination, good vision, physical mobility and flexibility; good reflexes.
- Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Moderate physical activity; requires standing and/or walking throughout the day. Must be able to push and pull; light lifting required.
- In this position, one may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, communicable diseases, and biohazards.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of patients during emergency situations.
- Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, multi-line telephone, copier, fax server, document scanner, and other such office equipment as necessary
- Requires ability to work in a stressful dental office environment where interaction with others is constant and interruptive
- May be exposed to patients who have low impulse control, and angry temper outbursts requiring safety precautions and measures
- Work is normally performed in a typical dental office work environment
- The work environment involves the normal risks and discomforts typical of a community health center
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $140,000.00 – $185,000.00 per year
