Certified Nurse Midwife

Job purpose
The Certified Nurse Midwife is an exciting opportunity to join a mission-driven midwifery service that provides high-quality, patient centered, full-scope (inpatient and outpatient) care in a community health center model in partnership with a pre-eminent academic medical center.

Duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the Site Medical Director, the Certified Nurse Midwife’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 Provides care of and management of the essentially normal uterus-bearing individual throughout the reproductive cycle. This may include care of the normal newborn as well as the peri and post-menopausal individual
 Develops a plan of care for each patient, including medical history, physical examination, diagnosis and appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization if necessary
 Uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and others tests in an appropriate and cost efficient manner
 Confers with other clinicians, patients’ families and other support staff concerning treatment and care of patients when appropriate
 Refers those cases which require specialist services, but maintains primary care responsibility to assure continuity of care
 Maintains accurate medical records and performs appropriate charting and follow up on patients
 Participates in Medical & General staff meetings and appropriate clinical teams
 Participates in the Health Center’s Performance Improvement program, in other task groups as needed, and pursues continuing education opportunities to update medical knowledge and assure quality patient care
 Performs other necessary duties as required by the FHCHC to achieve the goal of providing high quality service and health care

Qualifications
 Graduation from an accredited school of midwifery
 Certified or eligible for certification by American College of Nurse Midwives; if eligible, certification must be received within 1 year of starting employment
 At least one year of experience practicing full-scope midwifery
 Training and certification in colposcopy

 Licensed by the State of Connecticut as a Licensed Midwife
 Ability and willingness to serve on the active medical staff of the hospitals used by FHCHC
 Qualified in Basic Life Support [required]
 Bi-lingual in Spanish and English preferred
 Experience in an ambulatory or outpatient setting midwifery
 Ability to relate with warmth and effectiveness to the patients and other staff
 Experience with Epic EMR preferred
