HIV and Oral Health: An Update and Refocus

This presentation will enable participants to accurately diagnose and manage the most common oral opportunistic infections seen in association with HIV disease. This presentation will also cover how to manage exposure in the dental setting. 1 CDE will be offered for this webinar.
Oral Health is an integral component of primary care. As stated in the Surgeon General’s report “Oral Health in America”, one cannot be healthy without oral health. This presentation will offer information on the important role of the oral healthcare team in regard to the overall well-being of people with HIV (PWH). Topics to be covered will include proper dental management for disease including a discussion of important lab values.
After attending this course, participants will be able to:
- Be aware of the latest on HIV in the U.S. including the Plan to End HIV.
- Identify and manage the most common oral manifestations seen in association with HIV disease.
- Understand clinical management issues for providing invasive dental care to patients living with HIV in the dental office including an understanding of relevant lab values.
- Be aware of occupational post-exposure prophylaxis (oPEP) protocols.
