Older adults with diabetes are at increased risk of periodontal disease and poor dentition, which may affect overall health, functional status, and quality of life. This webinar will address the burden of diabetes among this population; the role of supportive housing as a key social determinant in improving health outcomes, including connections to quality dental care; and promising and evidence-based practices aimed at improving overall dentition among older adults with diabetes who are homeless or formerly homeless.

 

Objectives:

Equip participants to:

  • Understand the various types of housing insecurity faced by older adults
  • Understand the role of access to quality oral health care in chronic disease management
  • Understand the role of supportive housing as a key social determinant in improving health outcomes
  • Describe promising and evidence-based practices aimed at improving overall dentition among older adults with diabetes who are experiencing homelessness
