NORWALK — The Norwalk Community Health Center will bring on three new providers and roll out an adult outpatient behavioral health program with $600,000 in federal grant money.

This money will be going to a number of community health centers around the state.

As community leaders applauded the opening of Wheeler Health’s glistening new three-story headquarters and health center in Bristol Tuesday, Mayor Jeff Caggiano said it’s much more than a source of jobs and an attractive element in rebuilding the city’s center.

Baby Bonds are an increasingly popular government policy in which every child born into poverty receives a publicly funded trust account at birth, providing them with “start-up capital” to pursue fulfilling, productive, prosperous, and self-directed lives.

The new law extending state-subsidized health insurance eligibility to all children, regardless of their immigration status, took effect on July 1. To celebrate this expansion of Connecticut’s Husky program, New Haven community members and state and city leaders gathered at Fair Haven Community Health Care.

State Treasurer Erick Russell held an event at Wheeler Health to announce a partnership with Community Health Centers, to help raise awareness of CT’s Baby Bonds initiative.
