Lessons from the Field: Innovations in Behavioral Health Workforce Education, Training, and Development

On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, HRSA’s Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW), Division of Nursing and Public Health (DNPH) will convene a behavioral health workforce virtual conference.

What can I expect from the conference?
We will highlight the accomplishments, best practices, and lessons learned from our behavioral health workforce programs.

Behavioral health grantees will showcase innovative academic and training approaches that expand the distribution of a skilled workforce focused on underserved populations and communities in need.

Who should attend?
Practitioners, students, or trainees interested in behavioral health workforce education, and training.

Can I participate?
Yes. We encourage you to submit abstracts that highlight your successes and/or lessons learned in behavioral health workforce development.

What types of presentations will you offer?
Presentations will be made by awardees from the following programs:

  • Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) for Professionals and Paraprofessionals program;
  • Graduate Psychology Education (GPE) program;
  • Leadership in Public Health Social Work Education (LPHSWE) program;
  • Mental and the Behavioral Health Education Training (MBHET) program; and,
  • Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention (NEPQR).

Will you offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending?
Yes. We will offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to conference participants free of charge.

What are the conference tracks?
The Virtual Behavioral Health Workforce Conference will be broken into four separate tracks:

  • Behavioral Health Integration in Primary Care: Training Models to Reach Rural and Medically Underserved Populations
  • Evidence-Based/Culturally Informed Practices to Reach Children, Adolescent and Transitional-Age Youth; Rural and Other Underserved Populations
  • High Performing Academic/Community Collaborations and Partnerships in Behavioral Health
  • Emerging Issues for the Behavioral Health Workforce: Diversity, Distribution, and Access to Care
