SEARCH

Overview

SEARCH stands for Student/Resident Experiences And Rotations in Community Health, but the experience encompasses so much more.  At its core, this is a unique program that allows health professions students and residents to work on interdisciplinary care teams treating patients in underserved and rural settings.  The curriculum prepares students for new trends and developments in the health care field.  The program is committed to creating strong mentoring relationships between participants and their advisors, and most importantly creates a close network of peers and colleagues in the community health setting.

SEARCH is a national program that collaborates with the National Health Service Corp. (NHSC), primary care organizations, and health professions schools in 28 U.S. states and territories.

The development of the SEARCH experience and its objectives is state specific.  The Connecticut SEARCH program has the potential to increase training opportunities and address crucial workforce needs in the state.  The aims of CT SEARCH are to retain health care professionals, who have experience and training in Connecticut, within the system of 14 federally qualified health centers (FQHCs).  Once placed in an FQHC, clinicians who have participated in SEARCH will have a clear sense of the mission, specific population needs, and the ability to provide culturally competent care.
