How to Advocate

How Do CHCACT and Member FQHCs Advocate for Community Health?
  1. CHCACT and FQHC Board Members are familiar with their community legislative representatives and offer them many opportunities to visit the health centers and witness the quality of FQHC programs and its impact on patients.
  2. CHCACT monitors state and federal health policy developments throughout the year and inform FQHC Board Members and staff of opportunities to attend public hearings and submit testimony.
  3. FQHC Board Members and staff offer their patients information on health policy and how it affects them. Many patients are actively involved in health advocacy.
  4. CHCACT publishes and disseminates timely white papers that serve to educate the public and legislators of FQHCs’ needs and their commitment to serving the uninsured and underserved.
  5. CHCACT and FQHC CEOs were invited in 2007 to serve on the mandated state health task forces: HealthFirst Connecticut Authority, Statewide Primary Care Access Authority and the Governor’s Hospital System Strategic Task Force. These key roles will be instrumental to informing the state policy planners of the plight and needs of the uninsured and underserved populations.
